The Leap of Faith: From Management to Childcare Entrepreneurship

For about 3 years, I was clocking in & out of a remote managerial position in a well-established organization.  Life was undeniably comfortable – with good pay & a role that had become second nature to me.  I was living the corporate dream as a leader for a team of call center agents, managing schedules & conducting meetings all day. Yet, amid the coziness, there came a call for change.

A persistent call compelling me to step outside of my comfort zone and consider a new journey. I just knew it was Jesus calling me to make a move out of the norm.  This wasn’t just a random career switch-up, but a transition from the corporate world to entrepreneurship. The Lord nudged me in the direction of starting a business, dedicated to providing high-quality childcare services.

In 2004, I had meticulously penned down the vision for my dream childcare business.  My mother, who has since ascended to be with the Lord, presented me with a binder in 2008, a token for my graduation.  Preserved inside, was a copy of my cherished vision.  I speculate she wanted to ensure it forever remained in my memory.

Jump to 2023, I found myself nestled in my comfy chair in the corner of our living room, deep in conversation with my husband.  At that moment, the memory of that binder rushed into my mind! Frantically, I rummaged through our storage closet & there it was – the encapsulation of my vision! It was at this instant that the Lord pushed it back into the spotlight of my thoughts.

I will confess, I juggled that directive for several months.  It was daunting dismantling the comfort of a predictable & well-rounded job, yet the idea of embarking on an entrepreneurial journey was irresistible.

And thus, I started small, venturing into the vibrant world of childcare.  However, difficulties quickly arose as I found myself walking a tightrope. Juggling the roles of a full-time wife & mom, a manager, & businesswoman was nothing short of exhausting. I suffered frequent headaches, and eye strain from being on the computer often, & was struggling with knee pain.  But more than physical ailments, the toll it took on my mental & emotional well-being was significant.  Stress had become a persistent companion.  Yet, in the midst of it all, God’s voice came across loud & clear.

A resounding message that demanded action pervaded my heart & mind.  With a slight tremor of fear & a heart filled with faith, I heeded the call from God.

I quit my job!

Fully transitioning into my entrepreneurship journey.  It seemed almost instantly, that miracles started to unfold. A day later, I received uplifting news from the state licensing body that allowed me to expand my childcare services accepting more children.  A great relief washed over me as that approval letter seemed to issue a warm, reassuring glow, affirming my decision.

I pursued and secured my Director’s certificate, childcare licensing, and CPR/AED certificate, eventually reaching full capacity in my in-home childcare.  Looking back, I am so grateful that I listened to His call, and that I chose to obey even when the path was initially unclear.

In following His divine will, I have learned that obedience is the Lord’s love language. Today, I not only run a thriving childcare business but also lead a life marked with contentment and free from stress.  More importantly, I have found joy in living my God-given purpose each day. 

Not to mention, a couple of weeks later, I learned the company I had left was losing its contract and all my former colleagues were on the verge of unemployment. It was a complete revelation! The lessons, experiences, & spiritual growth during this journey have profoundly reshaped me & reaffirmed my faith.

Jesus’ guidance was unfailing, and His promise was never void. Through obeying His call, my life has been exceedingly blessed & enriched.  Indeed, there is something immeasurably beautiful about accepting & walking in God’s divine direction & purpose.

I have unwavering faith that the Lord will bring the full vision to fruition. As we endeavor to raise funds for our dream center, our goal remains steadfast: to create a profound and positive impact on the lives of countless more children.
